Rainbow Landscape Irrigation & Maintenance (landscape contractor) did this landscaping & hardscaping project in Novato, Marin County, California. This homeowner has two dogs and children. The natural grass never grew properly due to everyday use by the household pets. These dogs are very active and kept messing up the sod. This is very common to happen with dogs, they dig up holes in the lawn, their urine burns the natural grass which creates the yellow patches, when it rains the holes and dead grass patches turn into mud that eventually gets carried away inside of the house and the dogs leave muddy paws prints behind, just to mentioned a few. Also, the homeowner was looking for cost-effective, long lasting alternatives to improve the backyard look and solve the lawn issues.

The landscape project included the construction of two new garden beds with two stone retaining walls. These stone walls were also built for the purpose of serving as siting walls as well. Upon completion of the stone walls, we proceeded to replace the natural lawn an artificial grass installation. The reason to install artificial turf was to use this area as a dog running area for the dogs. Artificial grass is a natural looking product that last approximately 20 years, durable, easy to clean after the pets, green all year lawn, lead-free, non-flammable, non-toxic and comes with a 10 years manufacturer's warranty. To complete this landscaping project, we added topsoil until both stone garden beds were filled up. We carefully transplanted the existing trees to an elevated high in their same spots. We installed a drip system for these trees and then mulched the garden beds.
