New landscape for the entire property in San Rafael, Marin County, California.

Rainbow Landscape Irrigation & Maintenance (landscape contractor) did a hardscaping and landscaping project involving the front yard, backyard and side yards of this property in San Rafael, Marin County, California. This landscape project included the following: artificial grass around basketball court, colored concrete driveway, garden lighting, irrigation system, mulching, natural sod for the front yard,  natural stone finish, planting, redwood stairs, step stones, stone pathway, stone patio, stone stairs, wood deck & wood trellis.

For this landscape project, Rainbow Landscape Irrigation & Maintenance teamed up with Zone 17 Landscape Architect & Design and submitted the bid for consideration. The bid we presented was competitive and the homeowner checked both companies' backgrounds and some references. After that, he was glad to give us the green light to move forward with the project. Rainbow Landscape provided all the labor involved and materials needed to complete this big project; Zone 17 Landscape architecture & Design provided the entire landscape plant & design, and also supervised the progress of the project.

We started the landscaping work in the backyard. The first thing we did was a full cleaning. After the backyard was cleaned of foliage and weeds, we did the surface grading for the entire backyard. The next step was interlocking the long stone retaining wall going  from the east side yard all the way to the backyard until it met the fence in the far back side of the property. Then another retaining wall, this time building a redwood retaining wall with a garden box to separate the basketball court area and the stone patio area. The backyard has two levels, so we built stone stairs to connect the basketball court area in the lower level and the stone patio area in the upper level. To connect the house with the stone patio in the upper level, we built a redwood deck in between them. Then we proceeded to build the stone patio. The existing hot tub was relocated and moved to a corner in the upper level and set up to work properly along with redwood stairs leading to the stone patio. We went back to the lower level to install new artificial grass around the basketball court. Then we built a colored concrete back patio going around the back of the house to connect the backyard to the front yard through the west side yard. To finish with the backyard work, we did the required planting, garden lighting and drip irrigation system installation.

After finishing with the backyard and west side yard, we worked on the east side yard. The side yard was cleaned up, the surface graded, step stones were placed as a walkway and finally groundcovers and shrubs were planted on both sides.

The final phase of the project included the front yard landscape and hardscape. We started by removing the existing driveway and lay out a new driveway with colored concrete and increased the size of the driveway. We resurfaced the lower part of the front wall of the house with natural stone finish. Then we built the stone stairs with garden lights built-in and the stone pathway leading to the east side yard. We graded the dirt area in the front yard and then we did the installation of natural grass with a sprinkler system. Planting and drip irrigation system for the new plants, more garden lights and mulching the topsoil areas completed the front yard landscape project.
