Rainbow Landscape Irrigation & Maintenance (landscaping contractor) did this landscape and hardscape project for the backyard, front yard and side yard at this property in the city of Kentfield, near San Rafael, Marin County, California. This landscape project was bid by three different contractors. These contractors were contacted by both the homeowner and the landscape architect. Rainbow Landscape presented a proposal based on the landscape requirements: drainage installation, driveway removal and construction of new driveway, garden lighting, iron fence, irrigation system, mulching, natural grass for the backyard, front yard and side yard, planting, stone columns to support the iron fence, stone retaining walls, stone patio & stone walkways. Rainbow Landscape was selected by the homeonwer to do this landscape project because we presented a competetive estimate price and our company was strongly recommended by previous clients of our company.

The first area we started working at was the backyard. Building a 140 ft long, 5 ft high, 14" wide stone retaining wall with landscape lights built-in 8 ft apart from each other, all the way back of the backyard. When the stone wall was completed, the surface was graded and prepare for sod installation with an irrigation system to water the new turf lawn. Also a 300 sqft of natural stone patio was built in the backyard as well. The stone retaining wall and the stone patio completed the backyard work required according to the landscape design.

For the front yard, we started removing the asphalt surface in the driveway and grading this area. A drainage system was installed for the entire front yard. Upon completion of the drainage system, compaction of the driveway area was done. Then we moved to building the retaining walls with natural stone finish and landscape lights built-in. Then grading the two areas selected for natural grass installation, along with setting up the irrigation system to water the new grass areas. The next step was building a stone walkway from the stone patio to the front entrance, with stairs leading up/down to the main gate. These stone stairs have landscape lights built-in and the stairs were built with a solid concrete base with stone finish. Then we went back to finish building the driveway with cobble stones finish. We proceeded to finish with the natural grass installation. The last step to finish the front yard lansdcape, was building the 4 ft high natural stone columns along with an iron fence, which would be held between the stone colums.

After finishing with the front yard, we started the landscape work in the side yard. First we removed an existing old retaining wall and trees, and hauled away all the removed materials and debris. Then we proceeded to grading the surface, buillding a new drainage, and then we built a new stone retaining wall. Upon completion of the retaining wall, we did the final grading for the installation of natural grass . An irrigation system was installed and set up to water the sod area in the side yard. The new turf lawn was laid out, followed by planting the plants requested in the landscape plan and mulching the areas with exposed top soil. This work completed the entire landscaping project.

Both the homeowner and the landscape architect were very pleased with the final result. This client requested Rainbow Landscape to provide his property with garden maintenance services in a regular basis..
